Luncheon Draws 50 Emeriti and 20 International Students

“Everyone I talked to seemed delighted with the International Luncheon, including the food, the fashion show, the panel discussion, and the conversations with students seated at tables with emeriti. Thanks….to Jen Yockey, International Student Advisor, and Meredith Reynolds, who made the panel discussion an informative, lively affair, with moments of good humor and real pathos.  I'm sure that the fifty of us in attendance were impressed by the poise, the intelligence, and the articulateness of the students.”  Emeritus Council President, Jim Dean described the March 5 luncheon with these words.  Several mentioned the possibility of repeating this format in the future.

The opportunity to observe the reactions of our international students to some of the panel discussion questions was very moving.  Emotions came to the surface as they reminisced about their home country and as they responded to questions about things they wished Americans knew about their homeland.  They are a great bunch.

The colorful costumes worn by the students and some of the emeriti added another dimension to the atmosphere.  Esther Halverson-Hill won the emeritus faculty prize (unofficial) with a spectacular Mongolian outfit.

It was great to renew contact with former colleagues and get caught up on recent activities.  Our next activity will be the President’s reception near the end of spring term.
